Mammoth Overland, a subsidiary of aircraft manufacturer Vashon Aircraft, has announced the production version of its SKL rooftop camper following its concept debut at Overland Expo West in May. The Woodinville, Washington-based company incorporated customer feedback over six months to refine the design before bringing the hardshell aluminum unit to market.

The production SKL measures 89 inches long, 59 inches wide, and 18 inches tall when closed, providing sleeping space comparable to a king-size mattress length with interior width between queen and full-size dimensions. A key design change from the prototype involves the front door deployment system, which now folds up from the floor and reduces setup time to 30 seconds. The unit weighs 300 pounds and includes an optional roof rack capable of supporting 500 pounds of additional gear.

Built entirely from painted high-strength aluminum, the SKL features R5 insulation rating and includes a three-speed roof-mounted electric fan for ventilation control. Interior amenities include dual light strips, six porthole windows, and optional auxiliary flood lights powered by a standard 6-amp-hour Renogy battery pack. Customers can upgrade to 104-amp-hour or 208-amp-hour battery configurations, with all units pre-wired for solar panel integration and shore power charging capability.

The hardshell rooftop tent carries a starting price of $11,500 and is available for reservation through the company’s website. The product represents the company’s expansion from trailer manufacturing into rooftop camping solutions, applying aircraft construction precision to outdoor recreation equipment.
