Looking for a turn-key solution to get you on the trail with the features you want and need to play outside? SPACE Trailers has you covered.

For many overlanders, trailers are the perfect solution to camping. They give you the flexibility to have your basecamp set up while leaving your vehicle free to roam without breaking down camp.

SPACE Trailers have been in the game since 2009, designing and building custom trailers to their customers’ exact specifications. While total customization is fun for some, the options can be dizzying. If you just want to hitch up and go, SPACE Trailers offers pre-made rigs for the first time based on three of their most popular uses.

Like all their trailers, they are crafted in Red Wing, Minnesota from 1/2-inch plywood poly-coated on both sides for weather protection and durability. The quarter-inch-thick HDPE canopy is light, tough, and UV resistant. They come equipped with 15-inch aluminum wheels with highway-rated radial tires and are compatible with 2-inch ball hitches. SPACE pays attention to details, so they include heavy-duty gas cylinders that help lift the lid, giving you access to your gear stored underneath. Even when the bars are loaded, you can get to the cargo hold.

The cargo bed is 4 x 7 feet with three different heights, more on that later. Six tie-down rings in the bed secure your gear, and you’ve got a tailgate for easy access and post-activity chilling. Eagle-eyed readers may notice vertical bumpers on the back end. In a flash of genius, SPACE Trailers made it easy to store these upright! The tongue folds down and you can just tuck this into a corner of the garage until it’s needed. Brilliant.

Need to haul mulch or help a buddy move? The entire lid is removable, giving you a wide-open cargo space perfect for taller items. The configurations are endless! LUV Handles are bolted into the frame on both sides to provide extra security to lock down your gear. They also allow you to easily maneuver the trailer when disconnected from your vehicle.

Regardless of what model you choose, the specs are as follows:

  • Weight: approx. 625 pounds
  • Load Capacity: 1,000 pounds
  • Capacity including trailer: 1,650 pounds
  • Dynamic load on bars: 225 pounds
  • Static load on bars: 600 pounds
  • Heavy duty cylinder capacity: 200 pounds per cylinder
  • Wheels: 15-inch aluminum with matching spare
  • Space Bars: 72 inches

SPACE Trailers tweak the specs based on how people most commonly use them. Let’s break down the subtle differences.

Camping Trailer

From the base trailer, the Camping Utility Trailer features front and rear stabilizer jacks to give you a solid platform for your home away from home. And that home is an included Thule Foothill 2-person tent. One of the key differences with the Camping Trailer is that you get off-road tires. This trailer has a 5.5-foot-long tongue and comes in 10 colors.

Travel Trailer

The Travel Utility Trailer Pulls double duty. Use it on the road as a gear and toy hauler or use it around the house for Home Depot runs while knocking out your honey-do list. With a standard 4-foot tongue and 72-inch-wide space bars, you’ve got ample space for an RTT, kayak racks, bike racks, rocket boxes, whatever. The Travel Trailer also has heavy-duty gas cylinders. It is equipped with a 4-foot tongue and comes in 10 colors.

Kayak Trailer

The Kayak Utility Trailer features a 6.5-foot XL tongue and 72-inch wide space bars for the length and width you need for longer boats. The Kayak trailer comes with rear stabilizer jacks and a Thule Compass Kayak Rack, perfect for your next water-based adventure. This one also comes in 10 different colors.

Making It Your Own

Just because these trailers are ready to go “off the shelf,” doesn’t mean there isn’t some room for quick and easy customization. Each trailer comes in two different ride heights, choose according to the height of your ball hitch. You’ve got the LowRider ST with a 17-inch tongue height, and the HighRider ST and HighRider XL with a 21-inch tongue height.

Upgrading to the HighRider XL nets you stronger welds on the galvanized steel frame, increased capacity, and higher ground clearance. You’ll get 85 cubic feet of weather-tight storage with a 2,300-pound hauling capacity and gross axle weight of 3,000 pounds. The max interior height is 36 inches. The XL comes in three colors.

SPACE Trailers are a good option for anyone wanting to haul ALL the toys to their favorite outdoor playground. They’re super light, just about any vehicle can tow them. They’re compact, negotiating tight trails is no problem. And, they have the capacity you need so that nothing gets left behind. Build your own and let your imagination fly.
